One to One Advice and Guidance

Introduction

Advice and Guidance sessions tailored to each participant. Link Up has trained a wide range of deaf and disabled professionals to offer advice and guidance on an individual basis. Whether your interest is in writing a CV for a new role with an organisation, finding out about setting up on your own, or developing your own practice as an artist, contact the Link Up team to find out more about joining the scheme and being matched to a mentor who will offer practical advice to develop your skills.

The sessions are held at Shape offices, on a date agreeable to both parties. The Link Up team will support the process and are available to assist with arranging accessible meetings for both parties.

All access and transport costs are covered by the Link Up programme and all Advice and Guidance sessions are free to take part in.

Mentors already participating in the scheme include:

Joanna Brendon, video artist

From a background in arts administration Joanna has been developing her own art practice since recovering from ME. A conceptual approach to work led to her MA thesis ‘Do Visual Artists Need to See?’ in 2005. Recently commissioned by the Singapore Fringe Festival to produce the video installation ‘The Insightful Eye’, she is currently interested in pursuing a more intuitive approach to painting.

Penny Pepper, dramatic writing

Penny Pepper has a background in writing across several art forms, has trained with Graeae Theatre Company and is currently concentrating on dramatic writing through her role as Artist in Residence at Rose Bruford Drama College. As an advisor Penny is able to draw on a wide variety of experience and excellent contacts within disability arts and beyond.

Nicola Lane

Nicola Lane’s work is characterized by an interest in the representations of disability across different cultures and media. Her work is informed by the experience of losing her leg in a road traffic accident in 1968, whilst a student at St Martin’s School of Art. Lane has exhibited extensively and was recently awarded an Arts Council England grant to produce a new moving image work, SPLITSCREEN.

I have been teamed up with a mentor who is an excellent match. I would encourage everyone to be involved with this project as a mentor or a mentee!
