What are you working on at the moment?
I am choreographing a dance performance for the Place Prize 2008
What is a usual day for you?
Creative days.
What is your greatest achievement?
I have been selected as one of the twenty choreographers for the Place Prize 2008.
If you had the chance to go back in time what piece of dance would you be in and why?
Wolfgang Shutange’s dance workshop
His workshop was my first dance experience and his way to create made my body and mind open.
What do you despise?
Slow work
Who is your hero?
My mother
What is the biggest challenge as an dancer a choreographer today?
Trying to research and to choreograph ‘what is visual sound/music?’ by a deaf perspective
Do you think that the attitude towards working with disabled and deaf dancers has changed over the last 10 years?
I have lived in London since 2003 and need more 5 years to answer.
If you could invite any four people from the past or present to a dinner party whom would you have?
If it is possible, I would love to invite Beethoven, Goya, my guardian and a sign interpreter to discuss about deaf Art.
About Chisato
Chisato is a deaf dancer, choreographer and tutor. She trained at the Laban Centre and Yokohama National University and has created and performed work in 14 countries, including her native Japan. She was a member of CandoCo Dance Company from 2003-2006, after which she began performing her own choreography. She presented SCOT for Resolution! at The Place in 2007.
