The Articulate UK conference was a real success!
Young learning disabled people from London, Brighton and Oxford got together at Sadler’s Wells Theatre last month. They were encouraged to speak up, get involved and generally just have their voices heard.
Over a period of two days, young participants worked with Mind the Gap theatre company to devise three short forum theatre performances, which attendees at the final conference were encouraged to interrupt, then change or influence the outcomes of.
Policy makers, employers and service providers joined in workshops that showcased successful examples of young people's involvement in policy development, consultation and employment. From dancers to actors to police consultants, the young people profiled were truly inspirational.
Thoughts on the day were captured by the WAC Roving Reporters on their blog. Check it out at: http://wacwonderweb.posterous.com/. We think you’ll agree that ‘real success’ is no overclaim.
