Help Shape support mid-career disabled artists to take vital steps forward through our flagship art award, the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary.

Every disabled artist should be given the right and access to develop their practice without barriers. The Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary is a unique programme set up in memory of the life and work of sculptor Adam Reynolds. It is designed to support a mid-career disabled artist or artists, looking to develop their practice and build their profile by offering funds and a three month residency at a high-profile arts venue, and is a vital initiative in challenging the marginalisation many mid-career disabled artists face through inaccessible residencies, prejudice, and lack of support.

Adam was inspirational as an artist and a man - seeing his disability as a strength. This bursary is the most practical and powerful way to continue doing what Adam did to make the possible palpable.

The 11th ARMB will offer the recipient a £10,000 award and accompanying 3-month artist residency at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in early 2019. We're calling on our supporters to donate generously towards the £10,000 award to give the recipient a huge boost in their career and artistic development, to help us to build a more inclusive art world, and to continue Adam Reynolds' legacy of generosity in supporting artists and developing projects outside the ‘conventional constraints’.

We welcome donations of any size, and all funds raised will go directly towards sustaining the bursary, so that artists can focus wholly on the residency opportunity, without distraction. This can include paying for equipment, artist materials or general living costs. Through your support the recipient can dedicate the 3 month period to developing their ideas and practice, and take a significant step towards the realisation of their ambitions.
