Thursday 19 February
1.00-2.00pm
Tapestry Galleries, The Victoria and Albert Museum

In this gallery talk artist Carmen Papalia, as part of his creative residency at the Victoria & Albert Museum, will share the many ways in which he has interrupted the disabling power structures in his life in order to claim access for himself and for those who he is in community with.

From replacing his white cane with a high school marching band, to leading over two dozen eyes-closed walking tours in over 10 cities across the United States and Canada, Papalia’s socially-engaged creative practice has enabled him to realize disability experience as a liberatory space in which ones unique embodiment is inextricably linked to ones individual learning style and the potential to uncover entire unseen bodies of knowledge.

Join him as he shares his plans to implement a set of interventions that will temporarily open access in the museum, and establish the opportunity for a connected and embodied visitor experience.

All are welcome.
