Lois Keith OBE

Lois Keith has a background in education and worked for many years as an English teacher in inner city comprehensive schools, in programmes for schools television and developing courses and teaching materials.

She is a writer of fiction and non-fiction. Her books explore the lives of disabled people and  have been translated into a number of languages. Her first book, Mustn’t Grumble,  Writing By Disabled Women, won the MIND Book of the Year Award and she is the recipient of the Sue Napolitano award for disabled writers.

From 2003-2015, she was the Equality and Diversity Manager for the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama and had a parallel ‘career’ as a creative writing lecturer, most recently at Birkbeck College, University of London. She works freelance as a creative writing tutor and equality trainer, specialising in helping performing arts organisations improve their diversity and become ‘disability confident’.

She has served on a number of boards and committees including: Disability Arts in London, Channel 4’s Disability Committee, the Almeida Theatre’s Access Committee CandoCo Dance Company, Disability Equality in Education and the Alliance for Inclusive Education.

In 2016, Lois was awarded an OBE for services to equality and diversity in higher education and the performing arts.
