Artist Statement

Aaron McPeake b. 1965, Belfast

McPeake lost much of his vision due to an autoimmune illness, which has informed his artwork, and methods of practice. He was awarded a PhD (2012) from Chelsea College of Arts, which examined vision loss, and visual arts practice and was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (2011) and a first class Honours Degree in Arts, Design and Environment from Central Saint Martins (2005).  He has exhibited widely nationally and internationally and has completed a number of public sculpture commissions. Although there is a strong focus on interactive sound sculpture, McPeake also works with many different media and materials and through the physical nature of his work aims to generate abstract responses from those who encounter it.
