London based artist Angela Edmonds studied at Watford College of Art and gained a Degree in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire, later completing an M.A at Middlesex University. Her work over twenty five years has spanned Drawing, Photography and Sculpture as well as teaching in Colleges and Schools. 'Libation: From the Cradle to the Grave' - 2000. Cibachrome. Her early career was rooted in expressive figurative drawing, for which she won several prizes including First Prize in ‘The Hertfordshire Open’ (1988); First Prize in ‘Drawings For All’ at Gainsborough’s House, Suffolk (1992) and selection for ‘The Hunting Prizes’ (1989). Her mixed media drawings of urban or rural landscapes, have been widely exhibited in Public and Private Galleries in the UK and abroad, including The Royal Academy (1989), and Camden Arts Centre (1989). From 1989 to 1992 she undertook a three year drawing residency on the site of the Tu Shopping Centre, formerly named The Harlequin Centre, Watford, during its construction. 'Baggage' - 2000. Following her M.A in 1994 Angela Edmonds began exhibiting sculptures and related drawings and photo works which were shown in ‘Twenty East Anglian Artists at Kettles Yard, Cambridge (1995). Her object based sculptures mutate everyday objects to create new dialogues and often have a subtext of human vulnerability informed by her own experience of chronic pain. These sculptures have been exhibited in many galleries including The Ferens Gallery, Hull; Ikon Gallery Touring, Birmingham; Bilston Gallery, Wolverhampton; Hertford Museum, Leicester University, The University of Essex and The Place, Letchworth. 'Tribulation' - 2014. Wood, metal, glass, birds nest. In 2004 Angela Edmonds had a Ten Year Retrospective at the Attenborough Centre, Leicester. More recently in 2014, 2015 and 2016, she exhibited new sculptures at Frogmore Paper Mill, Apsley, as part of the exhibition series titled ’Material Matters’. Her most recent project has been the completion of the Limited Edition photo book ‘ PRECINCT’ published in September 2016 which contains 33 of her photographs and accompanying text.
