Latest Shape collaboration: Exhibiting artist in ARMB Shortlist 9 exhibition, ArtlinkHull, 8 April - 13 May 2017

Artist Statement: Le Gear (b.1985) is an artist based in the North West of Ireland.

Working primarily as a hybrid artist working at the interface of nature, homeopathic intervention, and environmental art, Le Gear states that she is poetic, energetic and a highly talented young artist and researcher. She has worked with great diligence to comprehensively educate herself in both the poetic and critical and theoretical expertise as well as the inventive artistic craft related to her broader sculptural and homeopathic investigations.

Le Gear's practice involves an engagement and meditation with the landscape, making visible the invisible by creating a tangible response to forces that are not immediately apparent. This work has emerged from the outcomes of research, collaboration and fieldwork based around water and its memories held within various water bodies from Arctic icebergs, the Baltic sea, and Irish lakes and waterfalls; listening to the mystical, mythical and metaphysical forces that act upon and interact with water on Earth.

"In making seven waters remedies from the Lough I convey the emotions of these sensitive waters, made from all the people the water has encountered, the last brown bears in Ireland, the myth of the dobhar-chú. The water holds the emotions of the landscape, distilled down the mountain into the lake. The water is altered by everything that has passed throughit, in its chemical nature as well as alchemical and its capacity for influencing us. The present is linked with the past and the future through these waters."
