What difference will the Young Leaders Forum make?

Funded by the Inspiring Futures Big Lottery programme, young leaders are passionate about getting more creative employers to think out of the box. ThroSam Castrell. Inspiring Futures Young Leaderugh awareness workshops and events, they want HR departments, managers and employers to become more aware of young disabled people’s barriers to employment. As one of young leaders Sam Castell describes, ‘we want to get employers to view disabled people as just as capable at working for them as non-disabled people, and to make reasonable adjustments so that their opportunities are accessible to everyone’.

By being part of the forum, you will gain a range of personal skills including teamwork, leadership, public speaking and social networking skills. Kerry, another leader of the forum also wants to inspire anyone who has the capacity to create opportunities for young disabled people: ‘No matter the art field, disabled young people are capable of a lot of things, about me I have a disability but it doesn’t keep from doing what I want and what I believe in’. 

What is it like being part of Shape?

The Forum is based at Shape’s office and meets twice a month in a range of arts venues. When asked about Shape as an organisation, Sam says, ‘I enjoy being part of Shape’s community as I get to mix with lots of friendly people who are always interested in my work as a musician and share my ambition for a world where disabled and non-disabled artists are given the same opportunities and credibility’

Who can be on the Forum?

  • Any young person aged between 21 and 30 who lives in a London borough.
  • Any young disabled person who shares the vision of the forum.
  • Any young disabled artist who wants their voice heard.
