If you’re interested in taking part in the London to Paris bike ride fundraising challenge, this page will tell you more about what you can expect.
If you would prefer to speak to someone please email [email protected]
Dates: September 2015 Deposit: £99 Sponsorship target: £1450Shape will fully support you throughout your fundraising. Meanwhile the experienced Skyline team will be able to provide advice on training and preparation, and will be on hand to provide full support during the ride. Skyline have experience of welcoming disabled participants to their challenge events, so whether you use a Bike, Tandem, Handcycle or another adapted bike, if you feel you can take on the challenge we'd love to hear from you!
The distance is approximately 300 miles (500km) with the first 85 miles in England. You'll be cycling for four of the five days on the trip.
Day 1: London to CalaisThe challenge begins bright and early from Crystal Palace heading south to the coast. The ferry crossing from Dover to France is on the evening of day 1 and the accommodation for that night is a short cycle from the ferry terminal.Day 2: Calais to AbbevilleStunning picturesque countryside awaits in northern France as you cycle south.
Day 3: Abbeville to BeauvaisThe route follows the river Somme out of Abbeville, a town which saw many of its historic features destroyed during the Second World War. Some important buildings survived including two churches, St Vulfran's, dating from the 15th century with a magnificent Gothic façade, and the 11th century Church of the Holy Sepulchre situated in the old town. Today's ride ends in the historic cathedral city of Beauvais.Day 4: Beauvais to ParisThe final day of cycling and the big push to Paris. Beauvais is the home of fashion designer Hubert dd Givenchy and creator of the Cronut Dominique Ansel.Day 5: Paris to LondonThe day is yours to sample what Paris has to offer. If exploring the city is your thing how about Les Passages Couverts around the Grand Boulevards? These are atmospheric covered passages, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, with second-hand bookshops, tea-rooms and gift boutiques.
The group will travel back to London on Eurostar, arriving at St Pancras. Skyline, who operate the challenge, have more information on the trip on their website including a frequently asked questions section which should help with the majority of queries you may have. Find out more here.
You will be joining a group of between 70 and 100 cyclists all of whom are raising money for causes close to their heart - not just Shape. Made up of people of all abilities, the group will be fully supported by the Skyline Events team throughout the trip.
