Theme: Disability

The 2012 Shape Open, the first year of our group exhibition of artwork created by both disabled and non-disabled artists. From the abstract to the figurative, the personal to the political, work in the Open investigated a range of ideas surrounding themes related to the Oxford dictionary's definition of disability:

Disability

noun (plural disabilities)

  • A physical or mental condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activities: children with severe physical disabilities [mass noun]: differing types of disability
  • A disadvantage or handicap, especially one imposed or recognized by the law: the plaintiff was under a disability’.

Winning Artists: Ilsun Maeng & Lauren Nicholas (selected by Daniel Lancaster from HSBC and Chris Bailey from the Westway Trust).

People's Choice Award Winner: Luna Jung-eun Lee.
