Artist Statement:

Anna Berry is a self-taught artist from the UK. Much of her work has been grassroots intervention in non-gallery environments and large-scale immersive installation, as well as, latterly, sculpture.

Her work encompasses a wide variety of processes and ideas, so it can be hard to pin down. It often involves non-archival materials, long repetitive making, and short-lived ephemeral outcomes, particularly in her early work. As such, her practice operates at the intersection of making, performance, installation, and recording.

The work is responsive to place, community, and politics but is, more than anything, concerned with the nature and experience of reality. Her brain working a little differently has led to lifelong questioning about the nature of perception vs reality, what is knowledge, and what is truth.

As an outsider artist, she operates mostly outside of the artworld infrastructure, not because she eschews them, but because she is not visible to them.

Anna was born in Glasgow but is currently based in Milton Keynes. She is also a musician, writer, and photographer.
