Artist Statement 

Justin Piccirilli is a London-based artist who graduated in 2004 with a BA in Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts. Following a solo exhibition, a brief stint in set building in film and theatre production, he moved into the construction industry however recently, due to a traumatic accident that he was involved in, he has been in rehabilitation and has been re-engaging with his art practice since.

Justin’s work is a social commentary on subjects such as mental health, disability, mortality, art, religion, politics, consumerism and his own fears. He uses traditional methods such as drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, film and live performance art to articulate his ideas. He also uses a broad set of materials to create his work ranging from metals, woods, jesmonite, silicone, wax, resin, paint, ink, charcoal, pencil and food.

He was People's Choice Award winner of our annual exhibition, the Shape Open, with his piece ‘Stone of stumbling, rock of offense’ in 2016 (see banner image) and is included as of the artists in our 2018 Open which opens from 22 March - 5 April at The Art Pavilion, Mile End.
