Latest Shape collaboration: Exhibiting artist for ‘In Out There’; the 10th ARMB Shortlist exhibition and a participating artist in the Shape Open 2018

Artist Statement: Sarah Carpenter is an artist, designer and photographer with a background in dance and theatre. She graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate in Design for Visual Communication. Her recent projects include a commission inspired by the British Museum, work exhibited at Saatchi Gallery and participatory art workshop at Tate Exchange.

Her work uses mixed media and focuses on her own experience of mental illness. She explores the structural processes of our minds to reflect on difficult emotions and topics and breaks things down to explore their full possibilities. Throughout her practice, she rebuilds and reimagines things to understand and unveil something “beautiful”.

Carpenter works with existing material and re-purposes her own photography and printmaking, to create new work. Seeing things from a different perspective and in different context helps her find something to relate to and understand.

Process, play and experimentation are integral to her work as she explores all possible “solutions” to a brief, adapting methods, processes and outputs. Her inspiration also comes from her surrounding environment and people that she’s worked with.
