The Power of Protest & Print - Fae Kilburn Fae's artist profile Return to all artworks Content warning: some work contains swearing, and references to assisted suicide, trauma, and abuse. The Power of Protest and Print is part of Reasonable Adjustments 2.0, a project commissioned by Peterborough Presents to mark the 30th anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and 15 years of the Equality Act. These five panels are part of a larger installation and exhibition by the artist that explores over a hundred years of disability protests and is inspired by the lived experiences of disabled people across Peterborough and the UK. The project aims to raise awareness of the reality of disabled people’s lives - both the good and the bad - and challenge stigma and stereotypes. Throughout Summer 2025, Fae held workshops and open calls through which the public were invited to share their lived experiences. The finished pieces not only tell a story through words but also through medium: both textile and print have historical significance for protest movements and grassroots activism. The five panels on show here - Protest, Cuts, Life Before, Our Perceptions and Change - incorporate narrative contributions from disabled people, historic protest slogans, and Fae’s own work and words. They tell the story of the DDA, the changes since, and the continual fight for equal rights for disabled people.
