Shape Arts at Liberty Festival 2017

Pop down to Liberty Festival to join the Shape team and the artists we support in a packed programme of inclusive and accessible events in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East London.

Join this year's ARMB recipient Oliver MacDonald as he weaves his way through freshly prepared willow branches and demonstrates how he mingles ancient craft techniques with a highly contemporary approach to making sculptural installations. 

1.30 - 6.30pm: Work In Progress - Installation - One of two public artworks that is a large scale installation which inflates, but never quite fully, before repeating the cycle. The two pieces placed together are intended to provide a fascinating insight into this leading artist’s practice.

1.30 - 6.30pm: Three Seater Syndrome - One of two public artworks that explores traditional willow weaving through a conceptual lens with three willow chairs inspired by the Goldilocks tale. 

1.30 - 3.45pm (approx): Oliver leads a willow weaving workshop.

Come to the Shape Arts stall in the community area and take part in a polaroid portrait session with artist/ photographer Mark Tamer  - Mark will be transforming photos of members of the public into a unique portrait. Takes place 1.30 - 6.00pm.

And while you roam the park, make sure you head down the main pathways (marked as 'J' on the Festival map) where an exhibition of 30 portraits by our CEO David Hevey will line the way. Specially commissioned by Liberty Festival, these portraits capture the talent and diversity of disabled people, with many of the subjects having a personal connection with Liberty - either now or in years past.

Access Information: Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been designed to be as accessible and inclusive as possible. The Park offers good step-free access, hard-standing surfaces, regular seating and accessible Blue Badge car parking.
